Kinley Legal Notarial Services

Kinley Legal has a fully insured and established notarial practice. Our licensed Isle of Man notaries public are happy to assist you with a full range of notarial certification services. In addition to their legal qualifications as advocates and solicitors, our notaries are public officials of the Isle of Man.

What is a Notary and When Might You Need One?

A Notary Public is a type of Isle of Man lawyer and public official whose primary role is to certify documents for use in other jurisdictions. This ensures their authenticity for foreign courts, registries, public authorities, or other notaries. While you may not need a notary every day, they play a crucial role in many situations, such as:

  • Certifying copies of passports and proof of address (e.g., opening an investment account abroad without travelling).
  • Certifying signatures on letters, such as consent for a child to travel internationally with a co-parent.
  • Preparing powers of attorney for transactions abroad, including property, land, cars, or timeshares.
  • Authenticating documents for immigration or emigration purposes.
  • Producing official certified translations of foreign documents into English, or Isle of Man documents into other languages.
  • Executing probate or administration applications for overseas estates.
  • Providing sworn evidence for legal proceedings abroad.

We certify notarial documents for all jurisdictions to the highest level of professional certification. Our experience includes preparing documents for use in post-Soviet countries, South Africa, Hong Kong, France, Spain, Canada, the United States, India, China, and many other countries.

Our Notarial and Certification Services

  • Witnessing the execution of foreign legal documents transferring property rights (trademarks, patents, bills of sale, assignments, cessions, mortgages, conveyances).
  • Verifying and certifying the identity of Isle of Man parties in international transactions.
  • Administering oaths and statutory declarations, including affidavits for foreign court proceedings.
  • Preparing and witnessing notarised powers of attorney and other specialised legal documentation, often in bilingual form.
  • Officially certifying translations between English and any other language.
  • Noting or protesting foreign negotiable instruments (cheques, bills of exchange, promissory notes).
  • Producing notarial acts in public form, for civil law jurisdictions.
  • Collaborating with foreign notaries, property and probate lawyers, accountants, and tax advisers for foreign estates.

We also provide the services of a Commissioner for Oaths, assisting with domestic legal formalities such as affidavits and statutory declarations.

Booking a Notarial Appointment

Notarial Clinics

We run notarial clinics, usually twice a week, where you can visit our office without an appointment and are guaranteed to see a notary. Our reduced notarial rate applies, which is 50% of our normal rate.

Please email notarial@kinleylegal.com or call 640366 to reserve a place at a clinic. It is helpful for our notaries to see your requirements in advance to ensure we can notarise your documents on the day of your visit. Contact us to find out the clinic hours for the week you would like to attend.

Urgent Appointments

If you require notarial services urgently, outside our regular clinic hours, we are happy to accommodate your needs. Please email notarial@kinleylegal.com or call 640366. Please note that full fee rates apply for services outside clinic hours due to the priority scheduling and additional resources required to meet urgent requests.

Home or Office Visits

If you cannot travel, we can arrange a visit to anywhere in the Isle of Man. We can travel to your home or office address, or any destination of your choosing. We do charge an additional call out fee and will advise on the cost during our e-mail response.

Apostille and Legalisation

An apostille is an official certificate that verifies the authenticity of a notary’s signature on a document for use in foreign countries. It is often required when submitting legal documents internationally, such as powers of attorney, contracts, property deeds, or certified copies. The apostille ensures that foreign authorities can recognise the document without further certification.

We can assist you in arranging an apostille through the appropriate Isle of Man authorities. You can visit our notary in person, and we will coordinate the process on your behalf. Please note that arranging an apostille involves two separate fees: our professional service fee and the court fee.

The court offers 2 processing options:

  • Standard Service: 2 working days to process
  • Premium Service: 90 minutes for expedited processing

The court fee for each option differs, and we will provide the exact cost when you submit your documents. Our team will guide you on the best option based on your urgency and the documents involved.

We can also advise if you prefer to apply for an apostille yourself, but we are happy to manage the entire process for you to ensure it is handled efficiently and correctly.

Certification by a Lawyer

If you require documents certified by a lawyer rather than a notary, we offer this service at a reduced rate. A minimum fee applies, based on five documents being certified or witnessed simultaneously.

Physical Presence

You do not always need to be physically present. If we need to witness your signature, your presence is required. Certified copies of documents can sometimes be processed remotely. Please contact us with details of your documents to confirm if this is possible.

Confidentiality and Security

As regulated legal professionals, our notaries handle your documents with the utmost discretion and care. We maintain high standards of confidentiality, secure handling, and professional record-keeping.

Based in the Isle of Man. Connected Worldwide

While our office is based in Douglas, Isle of Man, we can also arrange a reliable and fast courier delivery of your notarised and apostilled documents.
