We assist with applications for British, Irish and other international passports
Kinley Legal regularly advises clients on applications for Isle of Man, United Kingdom and other British passports, as well as assisting clients with the process of obtaining South African and other international passports.
While most applications for renewals of British and Irish passports are straightforward and might not require legal advice, applications for a person’s first passport, or where a person has dual or multiple citizenship, can often be suprisingly complex. Kinley Legal can advise on which supporting documents should be provided, and whether a person applying for a first passport has everything required to prove their claim to citizenship.
We assist our clients with applications for the following passports:
British passport – Isle of Man
The Isle of Man passport is the British passport variant issued in the Isle of Man, most commonly to British citizens who are resident in the island, as well as Isle of Man-born people now resident in the United Kingdom. The Isle of Man passport is also issued to resident with other categories of British nationality, such as British subjects and British Nationals (Overseas).
Kinley Legal can help clients assess their eligibility for the Isle of Man passport, as well as providing application materials and tailored advice and support for applications.
British passport – United Kingdom
The United Kingdom passport is the most common British passport variant issued in the United Kingdom and throughout the world. The United Kingdom passport is instantly recognisable as one of the most powerful passports in the world, allowing visa-free visitor access to hundreds of countries. The United Kingdom passport is issued to people with all categories of nationality, most commonly British citizens, but also those such as British subjects and British Nationals (Overseas).
Kinley Legal can help clients assess their eligibility for the United Kingdom passport, as well as providing application materials and tailored advice and support for applications.
There is a tradition of emigration from Ireland to the Isle of Man going back centuries, and the Irish passport is held by many Isle of Man residents who are Irish citizens. Irish citizenship gives the advantages of European Union citizenship and worker rights. Irish passport holders are also entitled to hold the passport card, a convenient credit card-sized second passport which can be used for travel within the European Economic Area.
Kinley Legal can help clients assess their eligibility for the Irish passport and the passport card, as well as providing tailored advice and support for applications, which must currently be made online.
South African passport
A great number of Isle of Man residents are South African citizens, both longstanding residents with dual or multiple citizenship, and relatively recent arrivals.
While the process of renewing a South African passport is not currently straightforward due to Coronavirus measures, Kinley Legal’s notaries can witness the applications of Isle of Man resident clients unable to travel to London or South Africa to apply.
In due course after the pandemic, we expect to be able to offer a fuller service to help clients with the South African passport process.
We regularly assist clients with the procedural aspects to obtain and renew passports for many other countries, as well as meeting their consular requirements. For many countries it is often possible to complete these requirements before one of our notaries in the Isle of Man, without having to travel to the country of origin or to an embassy or consulate in the UK.
